‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Picks Up GLAAD, Empire And Publicity Awards Nominations

Star Trek: Discovery picked up a few more award nominations today, on top of those it has already garnered during the Hollywood awards season. Here is today’s rundown.

Jason Isaacs nominated for Empire Award

Discovery’s captain Lorca has been nominated as Best Actor in a TV Series for the 2018 Empire Awards. He is going up against Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies), Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series), Matt Smith (The Crown), and Dan Stevens (Legion). Winners will be announced in a ceremony on March 18th. You can vote online at empireonline.com.

‘Discovery’ nominated for GLAAD Award

Star Trek: Discovery is up for a GLAAD Media Award which “recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community and the issues that affect their lives.” The show was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series and it is up against Billions, Doubt, The Handmaid’s Tale, Nashville, Sense8, Shadowhunters, Star, This is Us, and Wynonna Earp. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on April 12.

The nominations were announced on Facebook Live by Discovery actor Wilson Cruz and Transparent actress Trace Lysette.

Publicist nomination

The International Cinematographers Guild revealed the nominees for its annual ICG Publicists Awards. CBS publicist Kristen Hall has been nominated for the Maxwell Weinberg Publicist Showmanship Television Award. She is going up against publicists for Better Call Saul, Feud: Bette and Joan, Stranger Things 2, and The Orville.

Discovery co-showrunner Aaron Harberts took to Twitter to highlight the work of Hall.

 More nominations

In case you missed it, we previously reported that Discovery has already picked up some other nods. The show was nominated for two awards by the Visual Effects Society Awards: Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Episode, and Outstanding Compositing in a Photoreal Episode. In addition costume designer Gersha Phillips was nominated by the Costume Designers Guild for their annual awards in Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Television.

TrekMovie will continue to report on new nominations and how the show does in all the upcoming award events.
