The Character Generator Project

Coming Soon…ย or Not

I will be attempting to create a character generator for the Star Trek: The Role-Playing Game produced by the FASA Corporation. I hope to make creating a Star Trek character in the FASA systemย fun and accessible.

Because, I’m obsessed.

I’ve been in love with Star Trek and the FASA role-playing game system almost as long as I can remember. I became aware watching Star Trek and I’ve had the RPG since I was 11.

I’ve been tinkering with the system for nearly 30 years and I’ve made character creation more complete. Some may say more complicated and Iโ€™ll grant that. However, I’ve filled in some of the holes and added tons of details that make it possible to create a three dimensional character.

I have no idea when the generator will be completed. There are numerous reasons for this, the main two being:

  1. Time. I have a family and other responsibilities.
  2. I currently know only a little code. I’ll be learning as I create the generator.

Once Completed

Once completed, the generator will be posted here and available for anyone who wants to create a character.

I have about 30 years worth of file and data on this game, I could send you a copy of my files if you would like, a lot of the info is material I created or modified to suit my games..

    Thanks again. .

If you don’t mind me asking, would you be willing to make those 30 years of files, data and house rules available to anyone who asked?
I’m an avid gamer, and love the FASA Trek game, and would be interested to see others take on it, and how they expanded their version of the Trek universe!

When you do get it, check out the Gorn file, I’ve created a manual for making Gorn PCs, it includes 3 species of Gorn, weapons, and rank structure.

Lately I’ve been doing a lot of rewriting and updates to these rules. So some stuff might be a little ruff, but I’m always updating these files.

May I please bother you about the FASA Star Trek information? I am a Rabid fan of that system, I’ve held onto all of my purchased materials and went so far as to learn tlhIngan Hol and both forms of the Marc Okrand language. May I also have you send your files please. MrWillComp at G M a 1 l dot com

      It’s awesome!

I honestly never thought of having Gorn as player characters, or even detailed non-player characters! Loved the ‘Officer’s Manual’ you put together!

I’m still finding the time to go through the rest, but so far it’s great!

Thank you so much for sharing! I’ll post more comments as I work my way through! ๐Ÿ™‚

Glad you like the Gorn manual, I ran a gorn campaign for a while, it was very interesting. The Lyrans I use theklingon creation system, in my games those two ate allies. It works very well, gives players a little more choise in klingon campaigns, klingon/ vulcan fusion is nice also.

    Hi Randy,

I’m a huge trek fan and a long term RPer, but new to the FASA system – it seems a lot like Basic roleplaying to me, in it’s core resolution mechanic.

Would I be able to be cheeky and ask to see some of your resources too? They seem to be being received well!

Ok Andy, I need an email an I will send it as soon as I can.

The system is a basic RP system, it’s what makes it so good.

You guys mostly play in the TNG era ?

    • Matt
      Posted August 15, 2014 at 1:25 am | Permalink

      I mostly play TNG nowadays.

    • Ty Caine
      Posted August 15, 2014 at 1:35 am | Permalink

I actually mostly game in the Pre-TNG era, which is the time between the monster maroon movie era and the TNG era, the era is a little less documented (in my opinion) than most others and allows for a little more freedom (again, in my opinion).

I’ve made it so there are some ‘tween uniforms making things a little less Monster maroony, some additional starship designs, technology advances, and so on. And also the relationships with the Klingons are a lot more amicable.

Not quite TNG, but more than TMP/MOV

I have some good info on ships from this time period, but it’s not on files that can be downloaded. The original site this info came from is not up anymore.

It was called STSTCS Phase II, (I hope you have this already)
Star trek starship tactical combat simulator Phase II

Sounds good and I understand, been fully committed to work lately myself, leisure time has taken an unfortunate back seat…

Would be very interested in what you come up with for the civilian paths, if you’d like any collaboration or assistance please feel free to email me at tycho_caineATyahooDOTcom

Otherwise I’ll continue to watch this space! ๐Ÿ™‚

As an aside, I also have solid web skills and a smattering of Java (for both web and android) so if I can assist with anything in that sense as well, please let me know.

I am a huge Star Trek FASA fan and just dug up my books in the last week and started scouring the web when I came across this…

I know it’s two years old BUT if Randy or Ty wouldn’t mind sharing, I would appreciate it. I want to run in a TOS era but would love to see anything from TNG as well.

      Hey Greg,

No worries. I’m still here. I just haven’t had a lot of time to work on the site. Did you have some questions?

      • Greg Littlejohn
        Posted January 29, 2016 at 3:26 am | Permalink

I was hoping I could get a copy of the files that were shared from Randy…if not I understand.

I do have one questions about characters from the TNG era…how are you handling joined Trills? I thought I had that on a hard drive somewhere but can’t seem to find it…

        • Matt
          Posted January 29, 2016 at 3:49 am | Permalink

Oh, I see. Hmm… I’m not sure. Maybe Randy it is still around and he can share them.

Check out my page here: for Trill stats. And all stats for every race mentioned in any Star Trek series. I’ve only played in one campaign with a Trill and that character wasn’t joined. The trouble is, does a joined Trill get skills from the symbote and the host? I’d say, no. Memories for role-playing, yes.

          • Greg Littlejohn
            Posted January 29, 2016 at 10:34 am | Permalink

I understand, hopefully he is still around and might wander back in…

Going to see if I can find those rules today, if I do I will share them. I believe the Trill joined should have something more than memories and I think the rules I’m looking for including that idea as well.

Thanks for what you have compiled so far, you did a great job!
